SPI NEWS FROM ENGLAND,

DECEMBER 1999,

COMPILED BY MALCOLM ROBINSON.

OPENING THOUGHTS FOR THE APPROACHING MILLENNIUM

Well here we are again, it’s the end of another year, a year which has not brought us any closer to solving the UFO mystery, although that said, my article in our last update news entitled MILABS, is, I feel, very beneficial to the UFO subject and holds I believe a very big piece of the puzzle. In conversation with different people throughout this year, many have noted how quiet it is with the UFO subject these days. They may be right, or is it just that people are not reporting UFOs as much as they used to !! Who knows? All we can say (and see) is that attendances at UFO conferences don’t appear to be as high as they once were. One would expect, as we approach the new millennium, that these type of things would be high in the minds of the populace !! For me, as a youngster who was beginning to take an avid look into matters pertaining to UFOs and the paranormal, I was always very wary (if not fearful) of the Nostradamus prediction that a great fire would fall from the heavens in the seventh month of the year 1999 and destroy the world. With each passing year, and as my interest grew in the paranormal, I began to ponder more and more if this prophesy would transpire. Needless to say my fears were not justified - July 1999 came and went and we are all still here.

Predictions and prophecies are, I believe, the poor expectations of men and woman from yesteryear. They looked ahead and could only (in the main) see doom and gloom for our planet. One thing’s for sure, our sun won’t last forever, there will come a time when we ‘Earthlings’ will feel the cosmic force as our sun eventually dies. What then for planet Earth, what then for mankind ? Will there have been a mass exodus from our planet in interplanetary space-ships to far flung corners of our galaxy? It wouldn’t surprise me. The thing of course is, it all depends on mankind itself. We destroy each other on a daily basis. Every day there is a war being fought somewhere, unimaginable atrocities being committed on men, women and children. Will we ‘blow’ ourselves up in some atomic catastrophe or will the fossil fuels of our world, the trees, the oil etc, perish and diminish? I would like to think as we approach the new millennium, that mankind will survive into another millennium. Can that be possible, will we have learned anything from our mistakes of the past? We always said that the First World War was the war to end all wars, but sadly it wasn’t to be. Many wars have been fought since then, many new and even more destructive weapons of war have been introduced to the theatre, it goes on and on. The pain too goes on in Northern Ireland. Children are being born and indoctrinated into a (part) hateful society where friend fights friend. Distrust and killing in the name of religion makes it seem (to some) O.K. The peace process makes slow progress but is so very important. When peace hopefully comes, what will the IRA and UDA men do, work in local corner shops? They are seasoned killers who have known killing for many years - can they honestly stop their evil practices and plant seeds in gardens? Science thankfully is progressing new medicines, and new discoveries to assist mankind in all manner of means are happening each day. Progress is ongoing. Sadly the priorities of life itself are confusing ! We spend billions of pounds on weapons of war whilst the starving people of the world die each day, the priorities we have are all wrong and I don’t see that ever changing. The ‘beings’ that visit our skies know full well that we are a warring world who don’t put too much stock on the cost of a human life. We humans have tried to claim other people’s countries for our own. The British ran amok in Australia killing hundreds of aborigines claiming the land in the name of the British Empire, goodness knows what we would do should we visit another planet, try and claim that for our own as well !!

This century has seen a lot of conflict, a lot of wars, a lot of pain. Britain fought bravely to keep the Nazi threat from entering our country, but for those braze fighter pilots who won the Battle of Britain in the skies, our country might be a more sadder place, not forgetting of course the other men, woman of the Armed forces, including the Navy and other Commonwealth troops who defied the evil threat of tyranny from those who would try and enforce it upon us. I recently took in the Sunday service at the Cenotaph and was moved by what’s left of those men and women who fought for our country. War is a horrible thing, we all know that, nobody should like/want to kill another human being. There is no glamour in war, only pain and death. Will we see a third world war in the new century ? I hope not. We don’t see to learn from our lessons. The Tory Party, the Labour Party, and all other Parties are all out for themselves. They get elected on transparent promises and break them left right and centre months, if not weeks after they are elected. I’ve always been a Labour man, but never again. I’ve seen their promises broken and feel very sad to have supported them. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of goodness in the world but sadly not enough to make this world of ours a better place. We can but hope that sometime in the near future there may be a global change in the hearts of men that territories and borders should not matter, that the colour of one’s skin, should not matter, that we are all, in the eyes of God, one people. That is my hope for the future.

E-TREE. !

An amusing piece in the newspapers caught my eyes recently, it concerned a chap called Robert Warner who was sawing up a tree trunk when he came face to face with what could only be described, as a striking resemblance to that loveable character, E.T. The part of the tree trunk that he sawed through, clearly contained an exact likeness of E.T. Tests conducted at Ipswich museum showed that the tree trunk was around 20 years old. The image was caused, according to one Martin Sandford, by the trunk splitting into two then growing back again. It would appear that two branches have formed inside the same bark to form E.T’s eyes, and then have grown back together again. The face could only have appeared with the trunk being cut at this exact point. For those who didn’t see this press report, the image is indeed quite striking and goes to show what a crazy world this can be sometimes.

Staying with E.T. I just couldn’t believe my eyes the other night when I was watching T.V. and during the adverts a new B.T. (British Telecom) (Booooo !!!!) advert came on featuring the loveable E.T. but guess what, the ‘wee man’ was wearing a Hibs football top and running around, and if that wasn’t fantastic enough (for me as a Hibs supporter), we were shown a clip of a Hibs player scoring from a penalty at Easter Road, (home to Hibernian Football Club). Yeah man, that was cool. Out of all the football clubs in Britain, they chose my club. Fantastic, I’m fair chuffed so I am !!!

A NEW POSITION FOR MALCOLM.

As most of you know, I was elected onto the BUFORA Council earlier this year and I am currently putting on the BUFORA London lectures ensuring that we have quality speakers at our London venue. I was also recently voted to be the BUFORA Press Officer, and once we have our new press pack produced, BUFORA will be notifying many press and media agencies about ourselves and our aims for the new Millennium. It is my hope, that BUFORA can be a big force in the next century assisting the thirst for knowledge by members of the public and to assist their recognition that not all in the skies is conventional. (Whatever that might be !!)

FALKIRK UFO CONFERENCE POSTPONED.

Sadly the planned "UFOs Fact Or Fiction" UFO Conference planned for the Falkirk Town Hall for Wednesday November 24th 1999, had to be cancelled, the reason ! Well I assisted London Weekend Television by providing witnesses for them to speak to in regards to the UFO sightings over the small Scottish town of Bonnybridge (as did Councillor Billy Buchanan). Councillor Buchanan has some amazing air traffic control audio recordings made by pilots who have been flying over Stirlingshire (where Bonnybridge is situated) which clearly show that those pilots have encountered ‘something else’ in the Scottish skies beside them. This was to be used by LWTV (amongst other things) and shown in the autumn, sadly I couldn’t partake in the filming of this T.V. special as my partner (Judith Jaafar) and I were on holiday in Turkey. Billy’s Conference was planned for later by which time the planned T.V. special would have been shown. Sadly, for reasons which are not yet known, this T.V. special has not been shown, and we don’t have a date for when it will. This all means, that as Billy is contracted by LWTV not to disclose the nature of these tapes, his hands are tied and he had to postpone the conference simply because those tapes were going to be a big part of the night. Billy has asked me to inform members of the public through our web site about this, and asks that they bare with him until such time as the programme is shown, and he can obtain a new date for the Conference. If you have already purchased a ticket for this conference, your ticket will still be valid for the new date. As soon as I have a new date for this conference, I shall of course let you know.

STOP PRESS !!!

Just took a phone call from Councillor Billy Buchanan and he informs me that along with some others, he has observed and taken film of over a dozen strange objects in the sky over ‘his’ house in Bonnybridge, more news on this extraordinary incident when I have it.

U.F.O. (UNUSUAL FOOTBALL OCCURANCE !!!!!!

Crop circle and marks in the fields come and go each summer. Circular and other designs have appeared in many weird and wonderful places, but I must admit, I would never have thought that peculiar grass circles would turn up on the pitch of a Scottish Football Club, but that’s exactly what happened. Third Division Albion Rovers who are based at Coatbridge in Lanarkshire, are not renowned for setting the grass on fire with their football ability but the grass at their ‘stadium’ (and that’s being kind !!) was marked by 12 concentric circles which spanned from one goalmouth to the other. Caretaker manager 40 year old Jimmy Lindsay was quoted as saying in one of the Scottish Newspapers, "We were wondering what was going on, if we do see any aliens, we will snap them up. The way we have started this season we could do with freshening up the team." Jimmy goes on to say, and I think this is a classic, "Whatever caused these mystery circles, it was not the team running rings round the opposition". Yeah, I’ll say. He continues with, "Our groundsman Hugh McBride is fizzing, he goes nuts if anyone so much as steps on the pitch during the week, it is his pride and joy. Any alien on the pitch would have to face the wrath of Hugh, and they would probably head back to their home planet at the speed of light if they crossed him".

The groundsman was quoted as saying that he has looked after the pitch for 12 years and he has never seen anything like it, and with good Scottish humour he finishes by saying, "Some of the circles seem to plot a path to the goalposts, maybe somebody is trying to tell us something".

Clearly something/body, is responsible for these marks. Are Albion Rovers trying to drum up much needed publicity in order to get the fans back in ? There is more chance of seeing Lord Lucan riding Shergar than there is of seeing fans at an Albion Rovers match (sorry, only kidding). Seriously though, whether this has happened in the past we don’t know, having seen the photograph in the paper, I can only surmise (and that’s all it is), that like the crop circles, it’s another hoax !!! But should I be proved wrong, then I shall of course inform you should any more information come to life. Now why could it not have happened at Falkirk’s stadium !!! That would have been interesting.

GOING BACK THROUGH THE SPI FILES.

We continue with our feature of looking back through the files of SPI. This next report comes from our Journal ENIGMAS which I edited for a number of years. It’s taken from the November-December issue of 1994, and concerns a haunting that troubled a young family. This is how it read.

SPI KILSYTH HAUNTING CASE AUGUST 1994, REPORT BY MALCOLM ROBINSON.

Thanks to Mark Hawthorne an SPI member from Kilsyth who passed on to SPI a front page news items from his local newspaper, The Kilsyth Chronicle, SPI again found themselves on yet another intriguing ghostly case. Upon receiving this newscutting, I immediately sent a letter to the woman concerned, Miss Patricia Canavan (21) and explained all about SPI and how hopefully we could help her ‘situation’. Not long after, I was contacted by Patricia who was so glad that I was taking her claims seriously and she was over the moon about the help that was being offered.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN.

On the 8th of August 1994, SPI consisting of our psychic Helen Walters, researcher Billy Devlin, and myself, visited Patricia Canavan’s home in Kilsyth in Central Scotland and the following are the facts obtained. Patricia moved into this house in Kirklands Crescent back in September 1992 with her two kids, Christopher (2) and nine month old Danielle. Soon after moving in, she noticed that no matter how high the heating would be turned up, the rooms always appeared cold. Before moving in, Patricia was told by children playing in the street outside her home, that they could see the figure of a man standing at a bedroom window, yet the house was completely empty ! As if the coldness wasn’t bad enough, taps began to turn themselves off and on, lights would be switched on and off, and the stereo and video recorder would come on of their own accord. Initially Pat thought that she was imagining all this, but after checking that everything was switched off with the help of her sister Elizabeth (24) upon returning back to the house after a shopping trip they would find certain things switched on again. Things intensified with the toilet being flushed when nobody was in the bathroom. Door handles would move in a downward manner as if someone was trying to get in. Windows would be ‘rapped’, toys would be moved, and on some occasions Pat would put certain items down only to return and find that they had completely vanished. Eventually these items would turn up but in completely different locations.

Pat soon came to realise that she was sharing her home with ‘unseen’ occupants. This all became apparent when her two year old son Christopher started talking to someone she couldn’t see. Sometimes he would be fine with this, but on other occasions he would come crying to his mother saying that there was a ‘man’ in his bed. Soon Patricia herself began to experience directly, the strange sensations of unseen precenses. On some occasions her clothes would be pulled in a downward manner, she felt breathing on her neck and face, mostly at night. Someone (or thing !) woke her up one night by '‘jumping on her bed’ ! Pat went on to inform SPI that she always saw ‘shadows’ from the corner of her eye as if someone had just walked by. Once she saw a ‘man’ standing behind her front door who was ‘reflected’ in the hall mirror. When she looked again, he was gone. She noticed that just before events would begin the room would suddenly go cold. She told her local newspaper that it was like being outside on a freezing day, you can hardly breathe, it’s a terrifying experience. However, not only were these strange ghostly events occurring to Patricia and her children, but Patricia’s boyfriend Derek Walker (22) was himself subjected to a ‘ghostly presence’. Derek was sleeping in his bed with the covers pulled down over his bare back, when he suddenly awoke to the sensation of a cold and clammy ‘hand’ being placed on his back, this gave him quite a start as he told SPI. On one occasion Pat’s sister Elizabeth was staying with them and she too was subjected to something. She awoke from her sleep to the sensation of someone tapping on her back, upon turning over, she was startled and shocked to see the figure of an old man leaning over her bed.

At other times Pat would walk into her home and hear her name being called out, yet no one else was in her house. Neighbours would complain of hearing a baby crying from within her house when yet again no one was at home. The neighbours also complained of a blaring T.V. and of hearing loud music being played from within her home but on each and every occasion this happened, her home was completely empty !!

A HAUNTING REPUTATION.

Making enquiry’s, Patricia found out that her house was supposedly haunted. She was also informed by a friend that the block of houses in which she lived in, was called the ‘haunted block’ and that the house next door to her was having trouble with the gas being turned on and off. The gas board could offer no satisfactory explanation. The house upstairs from Patricia apparently had a ghost that threw a man out of his bed. The previous tenant of Pat’s home was subjected to strange ghostly manifestations, and this woman’s young child, (a young baby) would not sleep in her room and would always cry. The previous tenant was later to flee her home never to return, and incredibly, she ‘left all her house-hold furnishings behind’ !!!!

THE SPI INVESTIGATION BEGINS.

After listening to the many strange and bizarre events relayed by Patricia, her sister and Pat’s boyfriend and indeed Pat’s sister’s boyfriend Martin McDonald, we explained that we would return in the capacity of gaining further information through our psychic medium Helen Walters, we also explained the need to Pat, that SPI should spend a night alone in her house not only to hopefully obtain more valuable information, but ultimately to move on any such ‘spirit precenses’ to their rightful place. This was agreed upon and a date was set for the return of SPI.

THE SCOTTISH PRESS GET WIND OF THE STORY.

A few days later, an emotional and somewhat distressed Patricia Canavan telephoned me and informed me that ‘things were getting worse’, and could I possibly bring forward the date that we had arranged. Accepting the worsening situation, I agreed, and a new date was set. Now at this point Patricia was at her wits end and perhaps foolishly she contacted the Scottish Daily Record Newspaper to highlight her problem and with the added expectations that she could perhaps ‘shake up’ her local District Council into providing her with alternative accommodation. Helen Walters and I were none too pleased at Pat for contacting the Daily Record, if publicity was to be generated we would have preferred it to have been generated ‘after the event’ rather than before. The cat was now well and truly ‘out the bag’. The Daily Record published an article relating to Pat’s ghostly problems of which the title in big bold block capital letters stated, "I WANT AN EXORCIST". The story capitalised on the fact that Patricia lived next door to an old graveyard, and that a local priest, Father Jeremy Bath, mentioned that it was too soon to say if an exorcism would be carried out. However, it didn’t state the fact that he had already blessed the house and yet still the events occurred. A day or so later, I received a telephone call from the Daily Record who had learned of SPI’s involvement with the case and I was interviewed over the phone. The next day another large article appeared this time the heading was, "PAT GETS READY TO SPOOK HER GHOSTS". Subtitled, "EXORCISTS MOVING IN". Never at any time did I, or any members of SPI say to the press that we were exorcists. We stated clearly that we were researchers out to collect evidence and hopefully ease the situation if not clear it entirely, but there you are suddenly we were exorcists. The following day yet ‘another’ large article appeared in the Scottish Daily Record of which the headline this time was, "GHOSTBUSTER MALCOLM OUT TO END HAUNTED HOUSE ORDEAL". I stated in this article that most ghosts are ‘Earth-Bound’ entities, spirits who don’t realise that they are dead and what we do is to get them to realise that they have passed on and that there is a better place for them to go.

JOURNALISTS GALORE !

The eyes of Scotland were now looking at this case, would these intrepid ‘Ghostbusters’ get rid of the ghosts ? I’m sure that we were the talk of many a household over the course of those few days. I then started to receive telephone calls from various other newspapers all wanting to get in on the act. ‘Could we come along and spend the night at your ghost bust’ was the oft repeated phrase. A simple ‘no’ was our answer. However after much discussion, we felt that perhaps maybe we should let a newspaper become involved only if they promised to cover the story with honesty and sincerity, the aim being to inform the public that these cases ‘are real’ (well certainly most of them anyway) and they demand the utmost of attention. Foolishly (with hindsight) we choose the Scottish Sun Newspaper a decision we were later to regret.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN !

And so on Tuesday the 16th of August 1994, I along with Billy Devlin, his brother Tony (a keen amateur photographer) and our psychic Helen Walters, set off for Kilsyth. We arrived at 11:55pm and were met at the door by Patricia, her sister Elizabeth and Derek Walker and Martin McDonald. Also there were Alan Muir a reporter with the Scottish Sun and his photographer. After a short period of discussion, my first task was to place sheets of white paper under some of the household ornaments. I then drew a line at the bottom and around those ornaments, reason being, should paranormal activity occur, then perhaps it might move certain ornaments and if the movement of these ornaments were outwith the drawn circumference and we couldn’t account for it naturally, then this may be a sign of an unusual occurrence. We also placed compasses within the home, for it’s been stated by other researchers that sometimes compass needles spin when paranormal activity occurs. Thermometers were also used to detect any sudden fall in temperatures outwith the normal cooling of the evening. I also placed paper clips in single lines to see if later they had been moved or even interlocked !! Two video cameras were taken to the home as were a number of 35mm cameras. Sticky tape was used to seal up all windows to eliminate any possible draughts which may be misconstrued as ‘ghostly breezes’. At this point, Patricia her boyfriend and friends left the house informing us that they would return the following morning to see how we got on. Soon it was down to business and I quietly gaze instructions to Billy, Tony and Helen of where I wanted them. Helen would take up the position in the kids bedroom, scene of most of the disturbances and Billy was to position himself in Patricia’s bedroom. Tony, Billy’s brother, would have the honor of sitting alone on a stool in the hall. Both the SUN reporter and photographer remained with me in the living room.

A GHOSTLY BREEZE !!

Once we were all settled down into our respective places, I switched off all the lights. Complete blackness was all around, you could hardly see your hand in front of your face, only the faint flashing numbers on the video recorder penetrated this inky blackness. All was silent, would anything happen I asked myself ? What a great opportunity if it did. We have a newspaper reporter with us and also a photographer as well. The minutes ticked away and silence still prevailed. I spoke softly into my hand held audio tape recorder stating that if spirit were there, could they please make their presence’s felt by either materialising or by making noises within the home. Brave words considering that I had forgot my smelling salts !! Suddenly a small breeze wafted over my face, there was no denying it. It was like as if someone had just come up close and blown directly into my face. This, I must admit, startled me and I gave out a small gasp, and although I had the two SUN newspaper men in the room with me, they hadn’t moved from their respective chairs. I asked each one if they had blown air across the room in my direction, both replied that they had not. Composing myself, I again asked into the audio tape for spirit to make themselves known to me or leave their voice on the audio tape. I explained that we were here to help them move on and reach a higher plane of existence. Still silence, you could have heard a pin drop. After a period of minutes, I got up and walked through to see how both Billy and Tony were faring. Both Tony and Billy hadn’t experienced anything. I then checked with Helen who informed me that she had felt a ‘cob-webby touch’ on her face and had seen small bright lights flitting about in the air.

I returned to the living room to find, (or rather to hear) the sound of the SUN photographer snoring. ! Here we were, trying to make contact with the next world and this chap’s in slumberland ! ah the excitement of it all. A few hours later we took a break and discussed with oneanother what each of us had heard, felt, or sensed, and apart from Helen’s experience and my breeze on my face, things were fairly quiet. Soon after our break, the SUN men left saying that they had to get their story together even although they were leaving before we were finished. Before they left however, I got reporter Alan Muir to promise to me that he would do a fair, honest and sensible write up of our Investigation. Alan Muir promised me that he would, and like a fool I believed him.

SANDY MAKES CONTACT.

After our coffee break, Helen, Tony, Billy and myself all went into the front bedroom (where Helen had been most of the night). Helen had brought with her a number of items which she felt would benefit this Investigation, namely incense, Holy water, and a most beautiful crystal ball which was supported by four golden horses. Once we had positioned ourselves in the room we all sat in silence giving our thoughts out to spirit asking them to communicate. Soon after Helen again saw small bright lights, Billy too claimed that he could see these lights, (I myself saw nothing nor did Tony). Some minutes later Billy Devlin proved that he had nerves of steel as Helen calmly said across a darkened room, "Billy, don’t be alarmed, but there is an old man with a pipe in his mouth superimposing his face over yours". How Billy remained calm after being told this I’ll never know ! It was evident that spirit was clearly here, more so when Helen physically picked up the spirit of a young boy around 4 or 5 years of age with fair coloured hair who gave out the name ‘Sandy’. Sandy was quite distressed and Helen said that she saw tears running down his cheeks. A feeling of loneliness surrounded Sandy which was overwhelming. It could be speculated that this young spirit child was making his presence felt in the home, not only to Patricia, but to her young son as well. After a further period of minutes, Helen then played an audio tape of spiritual type music to help generate the conditions further for psychic events to occur after which Helen felt that now was the time to get on with our ‘cleansing process’. (Helen and I prefer this word to ‘ghost bust’ or ‘spirit rescue’).

RELUCTANT TO GO !

To assist in our ‘cleansing process’ we commandeered Patricia’s large wooden kitchen table which we brought into the bedroom and to which we placed Helen’s crystal ball. In the shady darkness we all spread our fingers out and touched each other’s hands and a general sense of purpose was felt. We were here to help and by golly we would give it our best shot. Soon after we had joined hands, Helen proceeded to say the Lord’s Prayer after which she then went into a long versed ‘cleansing prayer’. With calm emotion and purpose, Helen asked for the release of these ‘earth bound spirits’ to move away and go forward into the light. Listening to this was really something and as I looked towards both Billy and Tony, I wondered what would happen next.

The atmosphere in the room was tense, so tense as to be almost unreal in it’s feel. Helen then stood up and appeared to be pushed forward. Eventually the words stopped and all was quiet. All eyes were now on Helen. Helen proceeded to inform us that she had made contact and moved on two adults and also this young boy Sandy. "These spirits were not related" stated Helen, but were making their presence’s felt on the family. However, much as she was glad that she had moved on these three spirits, she stated, ‘one’s not wanting to go’, ‘I’ve still got an elderly gentleman here, he doesn’t like what I’m doing, it may have been him that pushed me, I’ll now have to say the whole prayer over again". And with that Helen composed herself, rejoining sitting at the table and we once again joined hands. After completion of the prayer Helen said, "he’s gone, I do not feel any spirit presence’s here at all".

Again one could speculate and say that perhaps this elderly gentleman was the man that Patricia’s sister Elizabeth saw bending over her bed, he could even have been the elderly gentleman that Patricia herself saw reflected in the hallway mirror, and maybe even he was the ‘man’ that the children playing out in the street saw standing looking out of the bedroom window. But it was over. The morning light streamed in through the thin textured bedroom curtains and spread it’s light over four individuals who were happy in the knowledge that they had successfully ‘moved on’ the spirit people from the family home. To make sure however, I followed Helen about the house going from room to room and asking her if she could feel anything ? Her reply from every room in the house was a firm "No".

PATRICIA RETURNS.

Some time later, Patricia returned with her boyfriend and asked us how we had got on. I was instructed by Helen not to tell her anything until she herself had went from room to room. Patricia then replied to my question on how she felt by saying, "It feels warm, I don’t feel anything here". We then told her what we had done and that once we had left her home for to wait for a few days then telephone me to inform me if anything further had occurred. I am happy to say that nothing further (of the strange variety ! occurred) and things are once more back to normal.

SHODDY JOURNALISM.

A couple of days later (August the 18th) The Scottish SUN Newspaper headlined it’s report as…..’IS ANYBODY THERE, subtitled, HELEN SAYS YES, ALL I HEARD WAS THE SUN MAN SNORING. This, and I can’t bring myself to say article but can think of some more appropriate terminology, used typical ‘tounge in cheek’ innuendo journalism with remarks to describe Patricia’s home as a ‘Ghouls Paradise’. I was put down as an In(spectre). The whole tone of the article was one big send up. How can anyone treat the subject of psychic research seriously after reading such dribble ? I won’t dwell on this article, all I will say however is that SPI have learned a valuable lesson, that of ‘not to listen to newspaper mens promises. We at SPI will never work with the Scottish Sun Newspaper again, we should have known better, but there you are. The trust was there from us to them, that trust was misused. Anyway, finishing on a positive note. SPI completed it’s Investigation successfully and I’m sure that the tears of young Sandy will now be tears of joy as he and those other spirit individuals take up their rightful place in the afterlife. God bless you.

1999 Thoughts.

Like previous SPI cases that I’ve touched upon in these look back series, I remember this case well, it certainly was a night that I won’t forget. A year or so later, Billy Patricia and I appeared on I think it was the Kilroy T.V show where Pat informed the audience and those at home, on some of the events that she had to endure in that house. I also learned from reporter Alan Muir of the Sun, that he did write an honest report of the Investigation for the newspaper but the Editor of the Sun felt that it needed ‘spiced up’ and so got someone else to re-write over Alan’s work so that the story bore no resemblance to his original writings. You could say that it grew arms and legs. Anyway that’s the newspaper business for you. I look forward to presenting a further look back at cases from the files of SPI in future issues of the SPI England updates.

CLOSING COMMENTS.

Well that brings me to the close of another SPI England news, (the last of the century) sounds funny that ! Like my earlier opening comments, I hope that mankind learns from it’s past lessons and recognises the importance of working in harmony with one another. (More so the UFO groups !!) So may I wish you all (including our overseas visitors) a very merry Christmas and a smashing New Year. Let us be optimistic about the future and hope that it may bring answers to the mysteries of which at present eludes us.
