Strange Phenomena Investigations (SPI)

SPI News.

As many of you may now know, I have moved down to London and have started up a sister branch to SPI entitled, SPI ENGLAND. This will complement our main society (SPI SCOTLAND). Both societies together, will advance the information that can be generated to the public, into informing them that matters pertaining to UFOs and the Paranormal are credible and sincere subjects which demand Investigation. The following information concerns some recent activities that I have been up to during my early weeks down here in London.

Granada T.V. UFO Special "Watch The Skies".

R egular SPI Web site readers will recall the information I relayed for last month when I informed you that I was assisting Granada Television for a UFO special which in part, dealt with the many UFO sightings over Central Scotland. I mentioned that I supplied them with locations to visit, where UFOs had been sighted, I provided them with witnesses to talk to, I provided them with UFO video sequences, and I also provided them with UFO photographs, I gave them everything bar the shirt off my back. They said that they definitely wanted me to be on their show as I was the main researcher in regards to the wave of UFO sightings over Bonnybridge, so I was shocked to learn that they had went up to Scotland without me, (they had promised to take me up). Their excuse !!! They said that they had tried to call me but the line was engaged. To me, they didn't try hard enough, for I also have an office line in the house, I also have my pager, and I also have my E,mail and Web site address, all which could have been used. I guess I've fell into the same old trap of before, and that is, you help these T.V. people out all you can, for them just to 'USE YOU', then when they have got what they want from you, they disappear like thieves in the night. Of course I'm not the first UFOlogist that this has happened to, I know of many others, all who have been used, then discarded, and although Granada have agreed to pay me a consultation fee and may place my name on the end credits of the show, I feel this is small comfort in regards to what I could have spoken about concerning these UFO sightings in Scotland. It's my call for this not to happen again, "and it won't" !!!!

Nick Redfern's Press Release 2nd December 1998.

O n 19th November 1998, Lord Hill Norton inquired how many files the Ministry of Defense (as opposed to the public record Office) currently held that related to the UFO issue. In his response, Lord Gilbert advised Hill Norton that 76 files were held by the MoD and that they dated from 1985 to the present day. Gilbert further revealed that that all of those files originated with the secretariat of the Air Staff, the office that was the former home to both Nick Pope and Kerry Philpot and that they dealt with the following issues, 'policy', 'correspondence', 'alleged sightings' 'Parliamentary business', 'media issues', 'and answer phone messages'.

Of course this is precisely the sort of material that one would expect to see on file with the secretariat of the Air Staff. But what of the additional files that certainly exist and that originate with, for example, DI55 and it's associated offices within the Defence Intelligence Staff, not to mention RAF Rudloe Manner and the Provost and Security Services ? For his part, Gilbert conceded that 'some files' on UFOs may be held by other MoD 'Divisions or Establishments', however, the MoD's truly astonishing stance as of November 1998 is that absolutely none of this additional material can be identified or provided. Why not ? A lack of funds ! In other words, it's the same old story, Sec (AS) 2a's material is O.K. for discussion, but anything else ? Sorry, no can do. And the British Government doesn't have a covert agenda ? Don't make me laugh.

(My thanks to Nick Redfern for providing SPI ENGLAND this interesting piece of news. Your right Nick, nothing much changes.

Bufora Lecture December 5th 1998.

O n a cold December afternoon, both Judy and I travelled from our home in Ealing, to the University of Westminster in the heart of London to attend the monthly BUFORA lecture. This lecture was intended to be a UFO video afternoon chaired by Robin Lindsay, however due to heavy traffic and blizzards on the M6, Robin was late in attending and so BUFORA's Arnold West, asked that I step into the breach. I took the stage and spoke about 'Repeater UFO witnesses' of which for the very first time anywhere, I spoke about witnesses like, Elsie Beveridge, a UFO repeater witness from the town of Denny near Bonnybridge, who back in 1982, witnessed many UFOs near her home. This was well before the wave of UFO sightings took place in nearby Bonnybridge in 1992, and that the area was a 'UFO Hot Spot' even then. I expressed this strongly, as many people have said that Councillor Billy Buchanan and I made Bonnybridge what it is today, This of course is not so, and I expressed to my audience to the fact of these many UFO sightings in the area back in 1982. I then spoke about another repeater UFO witness, that of Joyce Byres. Joyce witnessed many UFOs from her home in Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway back in the early 198O's, and I presented a few of her sightings to the audience.

I also spoke about a number of other UFO cases from the Bonnybridge area, cases of which I've never publicly spoke about before, so there was a lot of new information in my talk that afternoon. The only draw back that day, was the fact that we had no access to either the video projector or the slide projector, this for me was a major draw back, as I had a number of unseen slides regarding these new cases of which I hoped to present. I also had a number of new UFO videos of which I hoped to show for the first time, but couldn't. Plus I was going to come clean over the infamous and controversial 'ZALUS' affair which was a major issue surrounding Councillor Billy Buchanan and his role in supporting the UFO issue in his constituency. Maybe next time !! Robin Lindsay eventually turned up, and found much to his annoyance, that we didn't have the video player, so to compensate for this, he ran a UFO quiz (of which my partner Judy won). Plans may be afoot, to drastically change and alter these BUFORA lectures to hopefully put more bums on seats and get back to the good old days when many people attended these internal BUFORA lectures. If I have anything to do with it, it will happen !!!

CLOSING REMARKS.

W ell that's it again for another year. Don't forget to tell all your friends about our SPI Internet site, and if you know of anyone who has what they feel is a UFO or paranormal experience, to get in touch with either SPI SCOTLAND, or SPI ENGLAND. I'd like to wish each and every one of you, all the very best for Christmas and the New Year, let's hope that 1999, will be the year where we can all work together in harmony without any of this 'in house fighting' which seems so prevalent within this country. We should be all working together in regards to trying to gain answers to the mysteries which abound. Let us not forget, that we 'are' dealing with something very real here, something tangible, and something which ultimately demands our enquiry. That these things happen is a fact, to ignore the UFO situation, is to ignore our real place in the universe. We are but a grain of sand on a huge cosmic beach, and we should never forget this fact. So until January, I again wish you all the best from myself and Judith Jaafar in London.
