SPI FOUNDER

MALCOLM ROBINSON.

IT’S STILL THERE !!!

Readers of my last SPI England news will no doubt have bee astonished to learn about a rare case of Incubus, (a male spirit (!) entity who has sex with unwilling females). Well as promised I have the latest update for you and sadly it’s not good news, (certainly as far as the lady is concerned). As you know, SPI brought in Jenny Eales a well known and respected psychic. Jenny did a rescue service at Elizabeth’s home in Greenford London where the events had been occurring. Jenny was sure that she had managed to stop these horrifying events from happening again. Sadly it was not to be. A few days later I received a distressed telephone call from Elizabeth who through tears mentioned that the entity was still with her. That she was still feeling all the horrible sensations of being touched all over her body more so on her private parts. I felt sorry that our ‘rescue’ service’ hadn’t worked, I was very positive that it would have. "Is there anything else that you can do for me Malcolm, anything at all" ! These despairing words rang at the back of my mind and I knew that I just had to try something else.

My partner Judith Jaafar mentioned that there was someone at her work (Aggie) who could possibly help and that she had dealt with things of this nature many times in her past.

On the night of 16th August 2000, Judy and myself travelled over to Greenford to meet up with Elizabeth and also Aggie and her friends. Prior to this visit, Aggie had in point of fact visited Elizabeth some few days before where she had tried to move on this spirit but sadly she was unsuccessful. On that occasion just as they were trying to drive the spirit out, loud bangings and rapping’s were heard by all those present coming from upstairs. Aggie and her friends all rushed upstairs slightly apprehensive as to what they might find. Rushing upstairs they found, ‘nothing’ !! We arrived at Elizabeth’s home and after some brief chat about the events that had transpired Aggie set to work. This was different, this was something else. It was like a scene out of a James Bond movie filmed on location at Haiti. Aggie proceeded to ‘do her stuff’ and no sooner has she started than banging noises could be heard ! However, those banging noises were definitely coming from next door and were not of the supernatural variety. The following is but a very short extract from the exorcism that was conducted on Elizabeth, (much more than this can be found on the full audio tape of that session, for the moment though, here is but a part of what Aggie said as she commanded the ‘spirit/s’ to leave her body.

"All power has been given unto us, you are a spirit of schizophrenia, that is your name and we command you now in Jesus’s name to come out. You’ve brought many more with you and I want them all to come out, I want you all to pack your bags and come out at the mouth, every one of you, pack your bags and leave. You are not welcome in this body anymore. This body is soaked and covered in the blood of Jesus Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to leave, you that have lodged yourself in her body. We use the name of Jesus against you, there is power in his name, there is power in his word"

After all that Aggie had done, it was all for nothing as the events were still ongoing unabated. Not to be out done, Elizabeth took steps of her own and brought in another Minister who tried but failed. She also tried some more psychics, they tried, they failed. It was at this point that my feelings about this case started to change, I began to think that perhaps, just perhaps, there was nothing supernatural going on here at all, that it could well be down to Elizabeth having a psychological problem, a problem which she felt was spiritual. Since Judy and I’s first visit, Elizabeth had collected many paranormal books in an attempt to see if others had experienced what she was going through. Another visit was arranged with Aggie Judy and I, a visit that in point of fact I put off from going as I really felt more and more that it ‘was’ a psychological case. Nonetheless, unperturbed Judy went along and for a time wished that she hadn’t ! She told me afterwards that she experienced a sensation of extreme coldness all over her body but more so on her back, this lasted for several hours. Needless to say, that ceremony didn’t work either. As the days progressed I continued to receive a string of phone calls from Elizabeth asking if there was anything else that I could do for her. My feelings were (which I didn’t say to her) was that I’ve more or less tried everything, I didn’t know what else to try. I could only suggest trying more psychics, trying more Ministers, but more importantly, going back to her doctor and explaining all that was going on. Judy is now of the opinion that what Elizabeth is suffering is purely psychological, (we would both hate to be wrong) Elizabeth is adamant that it is spiritual, that she does have an evil spirit with her.

THE LATEST:

On the 12th of September 2000 Elizabeth rang me again and stated that she was now seeing spirits next to her bed, there was also a glowing white mist which appeared in her bedroom. She also heard beautiful singing coming from the bathroom and when she went to Investigate the signing suddenly stopped. Surpringsly she feels that there is someone/thing else, that is with her, and this something is trying to help her, having said that, she also told me that she was seconds away from phoning an ambulance as the night before she was terrified by further ‘feelings’ on her body. She continued by saying that she had informed another Vicar who was coming to see her the following day and that she had travelled out of London to see another psychic, (both the Vicar and the psychic failed to do anything). She had also phoned the Daily Express due to seeing a story featured in there which dealt with ‘rescue services’ on cases similar to hers. She has also wrote to a Bishop in London asking for his help and whilst praying of an evening, is seeing flashes of white light all around her. This and more is still happening. I feel so very very sorry for Elizabeth, it would appear that nothing is working for her. If it is psychological, then she must talk to her local G.P. who could recommend further steps.

As I’ve already mentioned, I’ve been in this subject for many years now, and this is the first and only case of it’s kind that I’ve dealt with, so when a gentleman from Cornwall phoned me recently claiming that his wife was being sexually molested by a spirit, well I just couldn’t believe it. I spoke to the gentleman at length and he explained that this was destroying his wife, the conversation was such that it was clear to see that this was a very extreme and disturbing case. I passed Jenny Eales phone number onto the gentleman and he said that he would call her to see if there is anything she can do. I just recently spoke to Jenny Eales and she said she would take on the case. I’ll inform you more on updates on both cases when I have them.

FOUR RECENT SAD PASSINGS.

It was with sadness and regret that I recently heard about the deaths of three researchers and one witness eminent researchers. Firstly there was African UFO researcher Cynthia Hind. I didn’t know Cynthia personally but I have taken in a few of her U.K. UFO lectures both of which were very well attended and informative. My collegue Philip Mantle had this to say about Cynthia’s passing.

"I have just found out about the passing of my dear friend and colleague Cynthia Hind. Apparently Cynthia died of cancer earlier this week (Late August 2000). To me Cynthia was like the achetypical favourite aunt, always with a smile on her face and a story to tell. She was by far the best and most amusing story teller I have ever come across. As part of her UFO studies she travelled far and wide, especially across Africa as she lived in Zimbabwe. I clearly remember Cynthia telling an assembled audience at one of the BUFORA conferences how she once interviewed members of a tribe in Africa who not long ago had still been cannibals. Cynthia being a rather large lady stated that if they had attempted to eat her it would have taken them a month. As ever, she had the audience in her hand.

As a UFOlogist she remained open minded but was definitely from the ‘nuts and bolts’ side of the fence. She had an enquiring mind and a determination to try and help solve the UFO puzzle. As a human being she was warm hearted, full of life, and larger than life in many ways. The human race will be all the worse without her as will serious UFO research. May she rest in peace and my deepest sympathy goes to her family and friends.

Philip Mantle 1st September 2000.

UFOlogists throughout the world who knew Cynthia will clearly echo Philip’s words.

Another sad and recent passing was that of the eminent researcher, Professor Arthur Ellison. Arthur was due to lecture at one of our BUFORA London lectures but sadly due to ill health couldn’t manage it. I remember speaking to Arthur just a few weeks ago where I praised him for all he had done in regards to bringing forth information regarding his studied to the general public. Arthur wrote the forward for the book, ‘The Scole Experiment’ a book which takes a look at the scientific evidence for Life After Death, written by Grant and Jane Solomon in Association with the Scole Experimental Group, it covers ground breaking information and is a ‘must read’ to all serious researchers and public alike. In an E-mail from Arthur’s wife Marion to me she said,

"I know that you have written and telephoned my husband Arthur several times about the possibility of his giving a lecture to BUFORA. This is to let you know that Arthur died on 6th September 2000 at home from cancer. We will all miss him a great deal but he died very peacefully as he was more than ready to move on. This life had become difficult for him as he was unable to do very much in the last few weeks.

Marion Ellison. 12th September 2000.

I never managed to meet Arthur but he was certainly one person that I was more than looking forward to meeting. His knowledge and expertise on the subject of the paranormal was extensive. Like Cynthia, he will be sadly missed by those who knew him. But like Cynthia he is still very much alive, albeit in a different condition but one in which he suffers no pain.

Councillor Billy Buchanan recently told me of the death of Andrew McCleish. Andrew was one of the many Bonnybridge UFO witnesses who have seen something strange in the skies over the past few years. However in Andrew’s case not only did he observe these strange objects flitting about the Bonnybridge skies, he filmed them as well. I remember one particular piece of video footage that Andrew took which showed one ball of light which remained stationary in the sky until a seconds ball of light slowly moved towards it. Both balls of light then moved off into the distance. This piece of footage was never satisfactorily explained. Andrew and I worked on a few Television programmes together in Scotland, and he was a great guy to work with. Sadly Andrew took his own life over personal problems. He will be missed by the UFO community in Scotland who knew him.

Another tragic passing was of another well know and seasoned UFOlogist, Arthur Tomlinson. I’ve known Arthur for a good number of years now and in fact Arthur gave a lecture to SPI in Stirling quite a number of years ago. He was more well know for being the first researcher into the famous Ilkely Moor ‘entity’ case where a strange ‘entity’ was seen walking on the moors of which was captured for posterity by a man with a camera who himself was out walking on the moors. At a UFO conference held in Lytham St Anne’s last year, I met up with Arthur briefly where we had a little chat, during this chat he showed me a computer enhanced shot of the Ilkely Moor entity. Arthur claimed that if you looked closely, you could see that this entity was holding a smaller creature, like a baby he said. I must admit, I couldn’t see that, but Arthur was convinced of this. Arthur was from the ‘old school’ a firm ‘nuts and bolts’ believer and I’m pritty sure that he now has the answer that he was looking for all his life. We’ll miss you Arthur.

CROP CIRCLE VISITING TIME AGAIN.

Judy and I always like to get out and do things regarding the subject we both love, and it was time to visit those crop fields of southern England once again. In August we travelled down to Wiltshire to see what was on offer. The season was coming to an end so there were not a great deal of circles to be seen. We did however see a small number, one of which we entered into. A strange pattern but nothing that couldn’t be done by the clever hands and implements of the clever sceptic. At the entrance to the field the farmer had placed a tin box on a post asking for donations!!! Obviously to help cover the damage that the public would obviously make as they traped all over his field. We paid the obligatory visit to the Crop Circle pub of pub’s The Barge Inn, followed with another visit to another crop circle shrine, that of the Wagon and Horses. Later that evening we met up with UFOlogist and crop circle maker (!!) Matthew Williams. Matthew is a good friend of mine and although I might not ‘entirely’ agree with his crop circle activities, I nonetheless admire his stance regarding it. Wiltshire is a fascinating county, a county I love coming to, and although the crop circles are nice to look at, to my mind they are nothing but the markings made by people out to fool the gullible public. There are strange things afoot in Wiltshire, some of which ‘may’ be paranormal, but the majority are not.

BONNYBRIDGE IN THE NEWS AGAIN.

The Bonnybridge UFO phenomenon seems to be never ending. Councillor Billy Buchanan of whom I’ve worked with over the years in regards to collecting all these UFO reports, tells me that UFOs are still being sighted over Bonnybridge and the surrounding towns. BBC Manchester (along with Japanese T.V. more in a minute) are the very latest in a very long line of T.V. production companies to keep showing an interest in Bonnybridge. I spoke with one of BBC Manchester’s researcher’s where I told her everything I knew about Bonnybridge, gave her all she needed to know. I more or less gave her the shirt off my back, the sugar out of my tea, etc etc, (I think you get the picture) Anyway, the upshot was that they travelled to Bonnybridge and other places, and interviewed a whole lot of people, including SPI Scotland’s Billy Devlin and Brian Allan. Garry Wood was also interviewed. Assisting BBC Scotland was noted American researcher Budd Hopkins and sceptic Susan Greenfield. Indeed, Susan conducted a polygraph test on UFO abductee Garry Wood, and guess what ! Garry passed with flying colours. I spoke to Garry on the phone recently and he tells me that Susan found him a bit of a phenomenon. Garry said that she was highly impressed by him, not only as a witness but as a genuine human being as well. And that’s the thing with Garry, I’ve said it many times before that Garry is so sincere, so honest, that I could never believe for one minute that he would make his abduction story up. The BBC Manchester show was a pilot, and if the powers that be grant it acceptance into T.V. land, then I was informed that they would go ahead and commission a full series of programmes to do with the paranormal. Here’s hoping.

Nippon T.V. from Tokyo have again showed interest in the Bonnybridge UFO enigma. I received a fax then telephone call from one Ms Kanako Hiramoto from Tele-Search Europe Ltd in London who informed me that they want to come to Scotland to film the UFO situation over Bonnybridge for a programme entitled World Watcher to be screened on Channel 4 (Japanese Channel 4 that is). All being well, they hope to come to Scotland for a reckie visit in the middle of October and shoot proper early to mid November. I’ve again gave Nippon T.V. everything they need to show, (running out of shirts here !!) and hopefully I can give the readers of our web page an update in the months to come. I remember assisting Japanese T.V. the first time they came to Scotland which was back in 1993. Billy Buchanan and I took Nippon T.V. all over Stirlingshire visiting people, filming this and that. The show was eventually aired over in Japan to many millions of people. Sadly they never sent a copy of that programme, (still waiting). The programme director was one Yunichi Yoa, quite a famous guy I believe in T.V. land over in Japan. As I say, more on these programmes when I have it.

FOR POSTERITY AND MANKIND.

Staying with Bonnybridge. Councillor Billy Buchanan was invited by the British Library to record for the Ken Stanton Archive, his thoughts and feelings on the Bonnybridge UFO phenomena. Councillor Buchanan invited myself to participate in these proceedings due to the help that I’ve given him over the years in regard to what has been going on. Billy and I met up at the British Library in London on Sunday 10th of September, it was great to see him again, he has never lost his panache, humour and Stirlingshire wit since the first day I saw him, mind you, he has lost his moustache, (as have I, shaved off since May this year !!!). The Ken Stanton Archive is a special collection of video and audio tape that is held at the British Library. Many recordings have been made here for the history of mankind. Social and economic issues of the day, special and important events of time etc. Therefore it was a great privilege to be invited to assist Billy in this recording for the history of mankind. Also being recorded that day, was a song called ‘Blue Cylinder’ sung by a lovely female singer on guitar accompanied by two violinists, (haunting stuff). The Blue Cylinder song was in connection with a UFO sighting that Billy had back in 1994. Billy witnessed a huge blue cylinder between Bonnybridge and Cumbernauld (Central Scotland) around 50 other people witnessed this object with Billy. Not only did all these witnesses view the blue cylinder in the crisp November night sky, but they all saw three small aircraft apparently surrounding it !!The British Library recordings is another first, the first time the subject of UFOs have been covered in depth for a National archive tape. Billy and I sat down and reminisced over what has transpired over the years at Bonnybridge, we spoke about all the sightings, all the controversy, all the nonsense written about Bonnybridge in the press. We spoke about trying to get the British Government involved, (which as we know, didn’t happen). We spoke, we spoke, and we spoke some more !!! We could have spoke all day, but time was the enemy and doors had to be closed.

It had been an interesting and enjoyable day, a day filled with UFO talk, but ultimately a day in which we put over to the people of this country (and the people to come) that Bonnybridge was real, Bonnybridge for some strange reason hosted aerial shows which captured the public’s imaginations, and whatever lay behind the veil of these mysterious ‘images’ there was no denying, never has been, that something was/is going on, and is part and parcel with similar happenings the world over. Glad to have been a part of it.

GUESS WHAT ! STAYING WITH BONNYBRIDGE AGAIN !!!

But we’re not finished yet, oh no, Councillor Buchanan as we know, is a man of the people, a man who admittedly creates his own controversy (but not Zalus !!) His latest infatuation with our subject is to twin the UFO town of Roswell in New Mexico with the UFO town of Bonnybridge in Stirlingshire !! Apparently things are moving quite swiftly and if it ever gets off the ground (which I hope it will) then this will be quite a story in the scope of things. Bonnybridge twinned with Roswell, only Billy could do this, he is some man. Of course his critics will say, that this is purely publicity, and I guess in a sense it is, of course it is. Billy defends himself by saying that he is only trying to push the UFO subject into the mind’s of people, to make them think, to make them ponder, but ultimately to make them realise that what’s happening above his town, is real, and we should never forget that. In a recent Scottish newspaper he was quoted as saying (September 2000,

"I’ve been put up as a lunatic, but answer this, why would anyone invite public ridicule ? I’ve had people putting up posters saying ‘would you vote for a Martian’ ? but people still vote for me because I’m a man of the people, I’ve got a cult following in Japan’.

He hasn’t of course, that’s just Billy being Billy. In the same article he has this to say about the twinning of Bonnybridge and Roswell.

"Twinning would be to the benefit of both communities. We share a common bond. Bonnybridge is very special and may be a window to another dimension. Twinning would create jobs, stimulate local economy, and could lead ultimately to UFO theme parks."

Whatever one has to say about Billy Buchanan one can never take away from him the fact that he has been a pioneer in regards to getting the British people to sit up and take stock of what has been happening at Bonnybridge, without him, a lot of what’s going on at Bonnybridge would never have got out, so we do have him to blame/thank (!) British author and researcher Jenny Randles had a pop at Bonnybridge in the Autumn issue of Strange Daze (Obtainable from Gloria Dixon for £2:50 from Strange Daze, Unit 2A, East Cheap, Heaton, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE6 5AU England, U.K. All overseas subscriptions £15:00 includes postage, made payable please to Gloria Dixon). Actually Jenny’s article, entitled The Mexican Wave (which has to do with the UFO sightings over Mexico as well) isn’t too bad, a little bit misguided, but in the main, her points are fair. However, some of the things she has to say I don’t agree with, and the article below, is my full response to what Jenny has to say.

THE MEXICAN WAVE.

(A REPLY TO JENNY RANDLES)

By Malcolm Robinson,

SPI (England).

3074 Words.

Every one has the right to an opinion, more so if that opinion if based on knowledge backed up by visitation of the area under question to talk to the local people, talk to the people concerned and find out exactly ‘what’s going on’. (Pity it’s not in this case !) I was astonished therefore to read Jenny Randles article entitled ‘The Mexican Wave’ in issue 21 (Autumn 2000) of the magazine Strange Daze. Jenny takes a look at UFO window areas or ‘Hot Spots’. Before she goes into the Mexican UFO wave proper, (the title of her article), she has a look at the wave of UFO sightings that have occurred (and are still occurring) above and around the small Scottish town of Bonnybridge in Stirlingshire Scotland. Jenny is of the opinion (and this isn’t the first time that she has broadcast this) that what’s been occurring in the skies above Bonnybridge, is nothing more than fanciful imagination helped on by the local councillor of the area Billy Buchanan, who, she maintains, has been trying to obtain attention and perhaps monetary gain to reach Bonnybridge and turn it into a popular visitor spot. Whilst on the surface this may all look true to those who don’t know the facts, the truth of the matter is, that Jenny is so far away from what is actually going on that she has missed the point entirely. Let’s take a look at the Bonnybridge phenomenon where the picture I paint, is certainly vastly different to the picture that Jenny Randles would have you believe.

BONNYBRIDGE, A VERY REAL PHENOMENON.

For those who don’t know it, I was the principle Investigator concerning the UFO reports that had been occurring in the skies above Bonnybridge. I assisted local Independent Councillor Billy Buchanan in the collection and analysis of these reports of which to this day are still coming in. My work regarding the Bonnybridge UFO phenomenon is extensive and has been recorded many times in print elsewhere so I won’t go into too much those points that I’ve covered in other commentaries. Before I show the reader where Jenny goes wrong, let me inform the reader what Jenny has said and why I feel I must rectify the situation. Jenny insinuates/states,

"When reports of sightings were made in the Bonnybridge area they were followed up by a local councillor. He was well aware of how the nearby town of Livingston had gained advantage after putting up a plaque to commemorate a local sighting that had gained world attention".

The incident Jenny refers to above, concerns one of Scotland’s most famous UFO Incidents, namely ‘The Livingston Incident’ where a local forestry worker encountered an object which he observed in a clearing in some woods. My society, Strange Phenomena Investigations, felt that this case was so important and as such, that we felt that we just had to commemorate it, which we did with the help of the Livingston Development Corporation who placed a plaque on a cairn at the site of the incident, the first time anywhere in the world that anyone has officially commemorated a UFO close proximity incident. Jenny seems to think that Livingston gained ‘advantage’ with this coming into practise, nothing could be further from the truth ! Livingston as a town certainly didn’t require a plaque commemorating a UFO incident to make it into a prosperous town, Livingston was well booming by that time. The industries that had came to this Scottish town came well ‘before’ the advent of Robert Taylor’s strange UFO experience. And whilst I’ll admit that the purpose was indeed (by our society) to let members of the public know about this startling UFO Incident, the location was not heavily visited by Joe public even although someone did actually manage to steal the plaque !! What I’m saying is, Councillor Buchanan may or may not have had this at the back of his mind whilst the UFO sightings were occurring over Bonnybridge. Councillor Buchanan was acting on behalf of the people he was elected to serve. I’ve said it many times before, was he to turn his back on his constituents, the very people who elected him ? Of course not. Publicising the town of Bonnybridge where he stayed was not on his agenda, what was on his agenda at this point (circa 1992) was to get to the bottom of what was going on. Billy didn’t invent the UFO sightings above the town, you only have to talk to the witnesses to ascertain that. There is no smoke without fire, that fire was UFOs and that fire was burning brightly in the skies above Bonnybridge.

When I came on the scene (November 1992) after hearing a local radio programme regarding these sightings, Billy and I worked tirelessly talking to witnesses and pulling together all the facts and figures. Both of us came in for flak, some of which surprisingly came from fellow Scottish UFOlogists who were not privy to the facts at the time. Now that they are, they have recognised (and apologised to me) that they didn’t realise the scope of what was going on and how very real the phenomena was. But let me continue with Jenny’s commentary she says:

"The Councillor did not create the sightings in Bonnybridge, but he allowed them to foster simply by setting himself up as a sympathetic ear to which local folk could tell their story"

"He allowed them to foster" !!! What !! How could someone let something foster when that something was going on on a daily basis ? Sightings were coming in thick and fast (accounts/reports available to any serious UFOlogist who wants to see what we’ve got, please do) Nothing was being fostered. We were trying to get to the bottom of what was going on, can we be blamed for that !! Jenny also states that it was no coincidence that the two major UFO groups in Scotland were both based in the same part of the country. ‘So what’ ! Even if we were based in John O Groat’s (the furthest part of Scotland) we would have travelled down to Investigate what was going on anyway, so being based near the area in question doesn’t come into it. If I lived at the furthest part of Scotland I would have still have reported what was going on in Scotland.

SO HOW DID THE UFO REPORTS GROW IN INTENSITY ?

Jenny seems to think that the reason there was such a high concentration of UFO reports in the area, was because it was a combination of two UFO groups operating near the UFO ‘Hot Spot’ area who were helping the UFO reports grow, then we had Billy Buchanan popularising the incidents through the local press and it was acceptable to report your UFO because Billy Buchanan had, as Jenny states in the Strange Daze article ‘ legitimised the topic’ . (page 33). Jenny then goes on to state that there is a difference in a legitimate UFO window area such as Hessdalen in Norway to the (as she states) and artificial UFO window area such as Bonnybridge. Namely that the Hessdalen area had a track record of UFO sightings that went back quite a period of time. Records from that area do indeed go back quite some time, but guess what ! so do the UFO reports coming from Bonnybridge ! Is this just me trying to score points and say something that isn’t true ! No it’s not. I was researching UFO reports in and around the Bonnybridge area a full ten years ‘Before’ the main events surfaced in 1992, and I can back this up with facts, figures, witnesses and an audio tape which I recorded with BBC Radio Scotland about the events near Bonnybridge back in ‘1982’. So dear reader, Bonnybridge isn’t a new phenomenon, it’s been going on for years, well before, and I’ll say it again, well before Councillor Billy Buchanan became involved. So Bonnybridge does have a track record, I spoke to many people regarding these 1982 (and before) UFO sightings, I didn’t even know Councillor Buchanan at the time. I’ll admit that as researchers we didn’t have all the tools available to us as the Investigator’s of the Hessdalen Incidents did. We didn’t have the spectrometers, lasers, and radar cameras that those researchers had, (Jenny does accept this). One of the main things that I’d like to say and get over to the reader is this. Because there was a very real phenomenon occurring in the skies above Bonnybridge (and elsewhere) Joe Public began to realise and wonder, ‘could this all be true’ ? So what did they do ? Well they did what anyone would do who had heard that strange things were afoot in their local skies, they got off their back side and got themselves out into their back gardens and looked skywards, and because there was a real phenomenon occurring there, they were witness to that, and as such those sightings grew, simply because they were putting themselves into the ball park, as I say, they were getting out there and finding out for themselves what was going on. The press (as we know) don’t always get things right so the proof of the pudding was getting out and seeing for themselves. That’s how the figures rose. Goodness knows how many more UFO sightings we might have had if more people actually came forward, for as we know not everyone does.

WAFFLE ABOUT ALIENS !!

Jenny then goes on to state that, and I quote; "What has Bonnybridge provoked, endless, and in my view pointless waffle about aliens" Jenny, we as researchers can’t help what the press say. Every researcher knows full well the treatment we UFOlogists get by the press, in fact I shouldn’t even need to say this. Billy Buchanan and I have tried to present the full facts honestly and with conviction. The people of the United Kingdom have a right to know what’s going on, and it would be wrong of us to deny them that. Don’t forget, if Billy and I were making all this up, why did we invite firstly John Major and then Tony Blair to look at all the information/sightings that we had ? We desperately wanted the British Government to come to Scotland and meet with us to show them the concern and feeling of the Scottish people regarding this very important issue. As we know this didn’t happen. We fought long and hard to make it happen but they just didn’t want to know. We then obtained thousands of signatures from the people of Bonnybridge and surrounding areas and handed these signatures to Scottish M.P. Dennis Canavan with a covering letter saying that as he was elected to serve the people of Scotland, the people of Scotland now looked to him to serve us with this request. Dennis to his credit did try, but nothing much came of it. In recent years Billy and I even approached Scotland’s first minister Donald Dewar with those same requests, but all to no avail. If Billy and I were making things up for publicity purposes and trying to attract publicity to Bonnybridge and boost the local economy, then surely we would have things to hide, and if we did, why bring attention to that by seeking out Government officials and Scottish Government officials. The truth of the matter is, ‘We don’t have anything to hide’ far from it, we want to let you, and all members of the public recognise the importance of what has been going on over Bonnybridge. Keeping our mouths firmly shut won’t do it. Would it ! When people go to school, do they just sit in a class and don’t take in what the teacher is telling them ! Of course not, they are there for education purposes, and the same applies to what Councillor Buchanan and I have been doing all these years. We are only trying to tell the public what’s been going on, and if that’s wrong, then why did I take up the role as an Investigator in the first place. An Investigator has two roles, one to try and reach answers to mysteries, and the second one is, if at the end of his or her Investigation they find that they can’t find a rational explanation to account for what was going on, then they have a duty to tell the public all about it. I will never ever research a case and then bury those notes in my back garden. Information is for the people and not for filing cabinets.

UFO THEME PARK.

Jenny then goes on to inform the reader of Strange Daze about Councillor’s Buchanan’s aspirations to build a UFO theme park and visitor centre in the town of Bonnybridge. Is that such a shame ? For goodness sake after having told the people what is going on, it’s only then right that those very same people have the right to attend a visitor centre to see on the walls those photographs and items that relate to what has been going on in the Bonnybridge vicinity. When we won the second world war, did we stop talking about it, burn all the photographs that were taken ? Of course not, people must see and learn what’s been going on. So a visitor centre is no big deal. If it is, then again I must be in the wrong business. Having said that, Jenny does state in her article that even if this theme park does take off, that’s not a big deal.

Jenny also states in her article, and I quote, "What I am really saying is that often the hyped ‘waves’ and ‘window areas’ are the least reliable because they have an inbuilt tendency towards high levels of trickery". Trickery !!! Now that’s a big accusation/statement.

LET’S GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT.

In closing I’d just like to re-iterate. Firstly.

  1. UFO sightings did NOT start in the Bonnybridge area back in 1992 when Councillor Buchanan became involved. As we have learned, I was researching UFO incidents in this region fully ten years before 1992. (Files available on request to any serious researcher.)
  2. Bonnybridge was not trying to ‘out do’ the town of Livingston. Bonnybridge was having a very real phenomenon occurring in it’s skies and it would be wrong not to tell the people about it.
  3. UFO sightings increased in and around the Bonnybridge area simply because people were putting themselves into the ball park so to speak by getting out into their back gardens and looking skywards. They had read about them and wanted to find out for themselves what was going on, and because there was a very real ongoing phenomenon in the area, they ‘witnessed’ that phenomenon.
  4. There was never any trickery involved with the Bonnybridge UFO sightings, that is an insult to the witnesses. There was a percentage of IFOs, as there is in any ‘window area’, but in the main the reports brought to our attention were quite interesting.
  5. Those other Scottish UFO researchers who gave us a hard time at the start, saying it was all due to Scottish Power Helicopters etc, realised after their own research once they had a proper look at the data, that hey Malc and Billy are right !! Something strange is going on.

CLOSING COMMENTS.

I’ve mentioned in this article how important it is to let the people of this country know what’s going on. Billy and I both recently continued on this vain fairly recently. On Sunday the 10th of September Billy and I were filmed and audio recorded for posterity regarding the UFO enigma that has been occurring over the skies of Bonnybridge at the British Library in London. We both contributed to the National Sound Archive, (The Ken Stanton Archive) where the people of this country will in future years, have the opportunity to bring out these tapes and see what all the fuss was about. Of course I shouldn’t close this article without mentioning those recent press reports (mostly from the Scottish newspapers, September 2000) which concern Councillor Buchanan’s attempt to twin the town of Bonnybridge with Roswell. (The famous American town where it is alleged that a UFO crashed back in 1947). At the moment things are going well even though talks are at an early stage. What one has to remember is that Councillor Buchanan is a colourful character, he is someone who will get things done yesterday, he can never be accused of resting on his laurels !! And it’s probably because of this that he gets such a hard time by the media. One things for sure, he doesn’t get a hard time from the people ! why, because he has been re-elected as a councillor year after year, and for someone who deals with wee green men from Mars, then surely that is saying something !!

Jenny Randles is a fine Investigator and someone I hugely admire, but no matter who the person is, when they reflect in print on their opinion on a matter (which is their right) then a corrective and alternative position should be given. The coin in your pocket has two sides, a head and a tail. People should never be shown one side of a coin. I hope that I have presented the other side of the Bonnybridge argument properly. All we have done (Billy and I) have been to show the public that "Hey, have a look at what’s going on, take some time out to evaluate this situation, we’re not asking you to accept it, just look at it". At the end of the day (one of Billy’s favourite sayings) Just because we reported on this phenomena doesn’t mean to say that it didn’t happen, it doesn’t mean to say that Bonnybridge is not a window area. I don’t know why Bonnybridge has seen this much UFO activity over the years. I’ll leave you with this final thought and something that Councillor Billy Buchanan mentions whenever he is asked "Why Bonnybridge", he calmly says, "Why Bethlehem" !

YOU TAKE THE HIGH ROAD AND I’LL TAKE THE LOW ROAD !!!

You know, being a Scot there are certain things that I ‘should’ know ! Sadly this is not the case ! I was recently reading a book entitled ‘Scottish Ghosts’ by Lily Seafield, Lomond Books 1999 ISBN 0 947782 14 1 There was a segment in there that referred to a famous old Scottish song, the song title isn’t mentioned, but the chorus goes as such,

"Oh ye’ll tak the High road and I’ll tak the Low road

and I’ll be in Scotland before ye,

for me and my true love will never meet again, on the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond"

The song, Lilly states, was thought to have been written around the time of the Scottish Rebellion of ’45. She writes,

"In 1745 some supporters of Bonnie Prince Charlie retreating from England were captured by the English. The words of the song are the words of one soldier who faces execution to another who is to be freed. The soldier who is about to die tells his friend that he will take the ‘Low Road’ back to Scotland. The Low Road was the name of the spiritual path that was believed to exist along with the spirits of those who died far from home could return to the place of their birth. The Low Road would speed the executed soldier to Scotland faster than his compatriot who faced many miles of hard marching, but although he might return to his homeland swiftly enough after death, he would never meet with his sweetheart again."

So there you are, now you know what the High and Low road means when it comes to that old Scottish tune sung many times by families all over Scotland (and no doubt many other places).

UPCOMING BUFORA LECTURES.

BUFORA have a further 3 lectures during the remaining part of 2000. They are as follows.

Monday 2nd October 2000. CHRIS MARTIN, UFOs Over London.

Many people tend to think that the majority of UFO sightings occur over the United States of America or various other countries of the world. Chris Martin has managed to capture some amazing video footage of UFOs in the skies over London ! Some of this impressive footage has never been seen before and as such begs out for the public to view it and make up their own minds. This and much more will be discussed on the night.

Monday 6th November 2000, ERNIE SEARS, UFOs Over Hants.

Seasoned UFOlogist Ernie Sears will be discussing numerous UFO cases from his files and also will be sharing with us, numerous paranormal incidents that have occurred to him throughout the years. Aims to be an interesting talk.

Monday 4th December 2000. RICHARD CONWAY, The Bible Code.

Who authored the Bible ? Does a mathematical model exist to prove that the Bible was given to us from a divine source ? Recent studies suggesting that encoded information exists within the Bible have created controversy throughout the world. This information has been popularised by certain authors and journalists but the fundamental issue remains, if there is encoded information in the Bible text, does it contain knowledge of mankind’s future as some studies have suggested ? This talk will aim to present research for and against the existence of such hidden information and attempt to interpret the consequences if final proof of the existence of the codes is uncovered.

All lectures will be held at the Quaker International Centre (The Margaret Fell Room on the first floor), 1 Byng Place, London, WC1E 7JH, (near the British Museum) Tel: 020 7387 5648. All lectures begin at 7:15pm and finish at 10:00pm.

The nearest Tube Station is Goodge Street on the Northern Line.

Adults: £4:00 BUFORA Members £2:00.

LONDON UFO SIGHTING.

A UFO report was submitted to BUFORA recently which may suggest that the real cause was due to Lasers, a common enough occurrence in the London skies as many clubs and night clubs regularly use them as a gimmick. From afar they can look quite intriguing and if you didn’t know what you were looking at, you could be easily fooled into thinking that what you were looking at was a ‘UFO’. Could this following report have been just that, a laser light show. See what you think.

DATE: 13th July 2000.

TIME: 11:50pm.

LOCATION: Parkway Raynes Park London, SW

WITNESS: Jim Clark (54) (psyedenom)

"Looking out of the skylight window at about 11:50pm, I saw 4 white almost milky pale, not very bright circles formed in an arc. I was in Parkway Raynes Park overlooking Cannon Hill Park. I saw these objects above the trees, they covered quite a large arc in the sky. The lower 3 circles seemed to retreat from circles into vague nebulous shapes and then reform into circles. The top circle remained the same throughout while changing shape, the material of the lower shapes seemed to become much fainter. Having observed them for about 5 minutes, the lower three suddenly shot leftwards (in absolute unison) away from the top circle and out of sight. This sudden shooting away happened at a fantastic and instantaneous speed. The top circle remained, but I was so shaken I went downstairs to phone a friend and listen to the local radio to hear if anyone rang in with sightings.

Investigations are ongoing, but on the surface it looks very much like another London laser light show !!

STRANGE BEING NEAR DECHMONT WOODS.

Readers of our SPI England web page will have read in my last news update about a strange ‘being’ that was witnessed by a man out walking his dog near Dechmont Woods, and Deans High School (scene of the famous Livingston UFO case in 1979). Researcher David Colman E-mailed me to say that both he and his wife interviewed the people concerned and were much impressed with what they had to say. Indeed, the lady stated to Mr Colman that on one occasion she witnessed a hail of fish dropping outside her home, (a seemingly more common fortean phenomenon than one would imagine these days !). With this fall of fish however, there was something even more stranger, the fish that were seen to fall near her home, evaporated soon after !!! not much more in regards to the actual story about the strange being seen near the woods and Deans High School came to light but it makes one wonder about areas in which these strange things happen, is there a reason for it !!

UFO SIGHTINGS LINE.

UFO group UFOMEK now have a 24 hour UFO Hotline, so if you think that you have witnessed a UFO, then call 07091 020 078. This line also has all the latest in regards to UFO activity in the U.K. Check it out.

E.V.P. WHAT ON EARTH IS IT !!!!!

A gentleman from Scotland recently called me to tell me of a strange ghostly case that was occurring in his grandmother house. The house in question was situated in the Clackmannanshire town of Sauchie. The town of Sauchie was catapulted onto the world stage back in late 1960 with what’s now become the biggest poltergeist case ever to have occurred in Scotland. I was therefore keen to find out what was happening at this different location in the town of Sauchie. I despatched SPI Scotland researcher and good friend Brian Allan. Brian will shortly be giving me a full report on his findings, but for now here are some brief details submitted by Brian Allan.

Ghost/EVP Case:

Location: Sauchie, Clackmannanshire, Central Scotland.

Witnesses: Various family & friends.

Date: Early 2000.

The witness, an elderly lady, lived alone in the house and had recently heard some strange noises in her bedroom. She eventually told her daughter who agreed to stay with her for a couple of nights to keep her company. The daughter then set up a cam-corder using an external power supply on a tripod. The camera was positioned in the hall to look into her mother’s bedroom at an angle facing a built in cupboard. It was from the cupboard that the noises emanated. The old lady is partially deaf and had attributed the noises to various causes, birds in the attic etc. At around 02:30am the daughter heard odd bumps, thumps, and metallic noises from the bedroom, her mother could hear nothing. The daughter panicked and rushed into the bedroom shouting to her mother to get up and out of the house, (complete with suitable curses). The old lady refuses to re-enter the house she has endured this sort of phenomenon for around five years now and told no one for fear of ridicule.

The odd thing is, subjectively the daughter and latterly her husband, although hearing noises in the house, did not hear the types of sounds caught on tape (more in a moment) All the noises emanated from within the house, not any dividing walls, there are only two houses in the block. The bedroom cupboard backs onto the kitchen, the wall is quite plain and uncluttered, no central heating boilers etc. Billy and I (Billy Devlin) spent a night in the house with the ladies son in law and one of his mates. The two of us set up in the bedroom, camera, audio-tape, and temperature indicators, the whole bag of rattles, in fact I almost fell asleep. Not a bloody sausage, niet, nada, nix, nil, not a sound.

Thanks Brian. The main issue to come out of the above case, was the recording of E.V.P. better know as Electronic Voice Phenomena. Apparently the daughter’s video camera had managed to record some of those strange sounds that were coming out of the house. Brian despatched a copy of this tape onto Professor Robert Morris of the Department of Psychology at Edinburgh University. As yet, Brian hasn’t heard back from him, it’s been a good few weeks now and Brian is none too pleased at the lack of response.

Brian sent me a copy of this recording and a few nights ago I went to bed, put the headphones on, turned the lights off, and began to listen to these strange and unusual sounds. A minute later (and here’s the embossing bit) I had to switch the audio tape off. Why !! Because I was s**t scared, honestly !! The sounds I heard in my darkened bedroom were weird to say the least. It’s hard to say what they sounded like, but at a push I’d say that it was like being outside a bird’s aviary with a laughing screeching, singing woman there as well. That’s the best I can do in regards to trying to tell you what these sounds resembled. I listened to it again in the cold light of day, and even then the sounds were scary and weird, (I must be getting hopeless at this thing as I get older !!). I sent a copy of this tape to Tony Eccles of MARA, (The Manchester Arial Research, Association. Tony’s group have dealt with similar cases of this nature and I await to see what they make of this tape. Of course these sounds may have perfectly plausible and rational explanations. Maybe the video tape wasn’t properly wiped on the recording, but then again the daughter clearly heard these sounds coming from the bedroom, sounds that she didn’t like and urgently wanted her mother to get out of the house. Anyway, I’m sure there are more things to happen with this case, so as the famous saying goes, ‘Stay Tuned Folks’

CLOSING NOTES.

Well that’s it again for another wee while. In my next news update I’ll be reporting on the phenomenon that’s been happening at Scole in Norfolk where mega paranormal happenings have been occurring. Deceased persons materialising in front of sceptical witnesses. Strange balls of light, shapes, symbols and lettering appearing on sealed photographic paper. The list is endless. Brian Allan has much to say about what’s going on at Scole. Hopefully all Brian’s articles thoughts, feelings and info, will be appearing on the SPI Scotland web page soon. So check that out. It’s been an interesting few months with more to come I hope.

Thanks go to my partner Judith Jaafar for proof reading my attempt to write, and to Dean Ladds, SPIs web site wizard. Tell your friends about the SPI web site but more importantly, keep your interest up, your eyes open and your mind tuned to the events which make our subject all too fascinating.
