SPI News from England.
SPI ENGLAND NEWS JUNE-JULY 2001. COMPILED BY FOUNDER MALCOLM ROBINSON. OPENING REMARKS.
Well here we are again with another SPI England, my doesn’t time fly !! We have quite a number of interesting topics to cover from Steven Greer’s plans to blow the lid on the UFO cover up, to UFO sightings over Scotland and Puerto Rico. Then of course there is the big news which came from Britain’s oldest UFO society The British Flying Saucer Bureau that UFO sightings are on the decrease, read my thoughts on that one. O.K. let’s get cracking.
L.B.C. RADIO SPOT.
I was recently up in Scotland to see family and friends and during this time I was invited to take part in a live radio debate which was being hosted at the ITN building in London for the London Broadcasting Company radio. The show concerned the usual topics, is there life in outer space ? Are UFO sightings really ‘aliens’, what’s going on ? Needless to say I got my oar in and mentioned very matter of factly that although there is a lot of misinterpretations by Joe Public who falsely believe that they are looking at exotic flying machines, there is still a residue of unexplainable reports that at present we just can’t quantify, and it is to these reports that researchers like myself are interested in. I was also joined on air by a professor from the U.S. who I just can’t recall his name. The show was surprisingly very well put together and did not enter the ‘foolish zone’ which I was very pleased about. I also mentioned the fact that UFO sightings were, (if we believe Councillor Billy Buchanan !) still occurring in the skies above the small Scottish town of Bonnybridge in Central Scotland. All in all, the show came across quite well and I’m glad I was a part of it.
RENDLESHAM FOREST SKYWATCH.
SPI England are planning to hold a skywatch in Rendlesham Forest Suffolk on Saturday July 14th 2001. We invite you to attend this skywatch. We plan to meet up at the Cherry Tree pub near the village of Eyke on Saturday the 14th of July 2001 at 9:00pm. Should you decide to come along, please bring with you the usual items for a skywatch, ie, binoculars, telescope (if you have one), camera/s both still and video. UFOlogy (as I’m sure you’ll agree) is all about participating and getting involved in things and we hope that you may participate in what hopefully will be an interesting night.
DIRECTIONS.
From the A12 turn off for Woodbridge, follow the road past a crossroads and continue straight ahead past Woodbridge. Cross the train tracks. On your left will be a pub called the Willford Bridge. Continue past this onto a roundabout ahead. At the roadabout take a left and follow the road for about half a mile. The Cherry Tree Pub (our meeting place) is on the left just before the village of Eyke. About 4 miles down the road, you’ll see a turning on your right hand side, take this road. If you enter the village of Butley then you’ve gone too far. Go down the forest road and at the end you will find a car park and entrance to Woodbridge Airfield (East Gate). Head into Rendlesham Forest (Track 12) and this will take you to Mr Boasts field also known as ‘Ground Zero’.
[My thanks to Richard Conway for the above information]
Should you wish to become involved, then please e-mail organiser Malcolm Robinson on spi_spi@hotmail.com or call him on 020 8998 4936 (or) 07949 178 835.
British UFOlogy, (Getting involved !)
MY RESPONSE FROM THE M.o.D.
In my last SPI (England) news I informed you that I had notified the British Ministry of Defence in regards to how many UFO sightings had been reported to them, (see their response in SPI (England’s) April-May News). I followed that up with a further letter asking them from where did they receive their UFO reports. In a letter dated 20th April 2001 from Mr S. Fowle he informed me that, and I quote,
"Reports from members of the public of sightings are usually made to Police Stations, RAF Stations, and Air Traffic Control centres and are then forwarded to this office. There is also an answerphone in this office where sighting reports can be left. The reports, which are usually brief and vague, are considered as necessary in consultation with Air defence advisors within the MOD and a decision is taken as to whether what was seen represents a threat to the security of the UK. Sighting reports are kept on file within this office for future reference."
Well nothing new there. But it’s the old story isn’t it ! they check to see if these reports constitute a threat to the defence of the United Kingdom. It is my opinion, and that of many other UFOlogists, that they know darn well what’s going on and yes, there is no threat to the Defence of the realm because whatever is going on is not overly concerned with making threats to this country or getting involved in our affairs. The clandestine visits of these ‘visitors’ are here following their own agenda which would appear not to be letting up, but I’m quite sure, that the British Government and Military Machine, are keeping a close watch on these visits from ‘who-ever’ and when they do breach our National security (which they might never do) then it will be a different story entirely. But will that day ever come I ask myself !!
HAUNTED EDINBURGH CASTLE.
During April 2001 scientific eyes were scrutinising the ghostly goings on at Scotland’s Edinburgh castle. Volunteers headed by Dr Richard Wiseman of the University of Hertfordshire began a week long study into the alleged ghosts of not only Edinburgh castle but the old Edinburgh vaults as well. During the Investigation, one volunteer was almost reduced to tears during a night time experiment in the castle. The Investigation was carried out as part of the Edinburgh International Science Festival and involved over 250 members of the public, each who had the chance to experience these alleged ghostly goings on. Dr Wiseman brought sophisticated recording equipment to Scotland in an effort to hopefully record something substantial. Apparently they did manage to achieve some results ! Dense spots and a green blob came up on photographs taken in the haunted vaults. Dr Wiseman said,
"Quite a lot of the experiences reported by members of the public were fairly extreme, some saw figures, a lot felt they were being observed, and some felt their clothing was being touched and grabbed. We and the volunteers were unaware of the history of the vaults but the volunteers reported experiences more often in the vaults reputed to be most haunted."
"It could be something quite trivial such as being damper or colder and we are taking physical measurements at the moment to gauge air temperature, air movement and magnetic fields. But whatever the explanation it means there is something going on because otherwise we would expect the distribution to have been more random. We asked one volunteer to sit in one of the vaults in the dark and tell us her thoughts. Almost immediately she reported hearing breathing from a corner of the room which was getting louder. She thought she saw a flash or some sort of light in the corner but didn’t want to look back".
All in all, the Investigation into Scotland’s Edinburgh castle and vaults proved inconclusive. Other than strange blobs coming up on the camera and volunteers strange experiences nothing truly substantial was recorded. However, there is no denying that many people who took part in this experiment were convinced that something ‘supernatural’ was going on. Dr Richard Wiseman is highly sceptical of claims pertaining to ghosts and the afterlife but nonetheless we must appreciate the work that he undertook at Edinburgh and wish him well in future studies, hopefully one day soon, something will come along to take him of the sceptical fence and make him realise (like I do) that there is no smoke without fire and ghosts are very ‘very’ real !!

HAMPTON COURT GHOSTS.
Staying with Dr Richard Wiseman (who incidentally looks very similar to BUFORA’s Chairman Brian James) Richard was also investigating the ghostly goings on at Hampton Court Palace and in an article from the Sunday Express dated (April 1st) no it wasn’t a April fools joke honest, he mentions his work at the Palace and I also get a mention in regards to what ghosts are !! and I stress that like Dr Wiseman, researchers are striving to obtain positive proof of the existence of ghosts that we can show the public, be it on cam corder or still photographs. For the record, Dr Wiseman was formally a professional magician before becoming a researcher and psychologist. At the end of the day the paranormal for me is much more alluring and tantalising than the study of UFOs although admittedly I won’t lose sight of the fact that UFOlogy as well deserves to be fully recognised by those high standing academic scientists who are currently turning their back on the subject.
THE BRITISH FLYING SAUCER BUREAU.
Many UFOlogists are now well aware that in April the British Flying Saucer Bureau closed down due, (they claim) to lack of UFO reports from this country. I did two live radio broadcasts, one for BBC Radio 5 Live in response to this. I stated that this was not so, not only were BUFORA receiving many UFO reports, but so too were the many other UFO societies dotted throughout the country. The British Flying Saucer Bureau (headed by Dennis Plunkett) were Britain’s oldest UFO organisation and have over the years, done some marvellous work but I am still surprised that they decided to fold. I guess that it might be due to not only the different choices of UFO groups that people can join in this country, but the rise of the Global Internet which gives users easy and quick access to UFO web sites. Anyway, one things for sure, UFO sightings have not died out and I’m very sure we’ll still be witnessing UFOs in the British skies for many years to come.

UFOs OVER LONDON.
Chis Everad also has available for purchase, a documentary entitled UFOs Over London. This was filmed throughout the summers of 1997-1998-1999 and shows an incredible number of mysterious spherical UFOs high in the sky above the world’s most famous Capital City. The documentary features vintage footage of the spherical UFO which ‘buzzed’ Concorde during it’s maiden flight and an interview with British Airways pilot Graham Sheppard who discusses his two UFO sightings whilst flying commercial airliners into British Airports. http://www.globalcyberstores.com
NESSIE IN THE NEWS AGAIN.
You can’t keep a good story down. Scotland’s most famous tourist attraction The Loch Ness Monster has been making the news again. A cameraman out in a boat managed to capture on still, a sequence of three shots which showed a long thin ‘something’ protruding from the loch, then levelling out, and disappearing. The photographs were not spectacular even although they were clear and concise. If it was the fabled ‘monster’ then it certainly was out of shape !! My own belief is that these photographs only show what could be a rising to the surface of a tree limb that has been submerged in the loch for quite some time. And owing to time and decomposition, the gas bubbles therein, released this tree limb to the surface where a lucky cameraman was on hand to snap it. I think the cameraman knows what he’s snapped and he knows it’s not ‘Nessie’ !!! Mind you, I could be wrong (!)
If you only check out one web site this year then please make it the official Loch Ness Monster web site, it’s a cracker. Not only do you get fantastic coverage of all of what’s going on at the loch, but there is two web cams trained at Loch Ness, one of the surface, and one below the surface. This will give YOU, your own chance to look for the Loch Ness Monster. Check out this fantastic web site on
www.lochness.scotland.net/index.cfmBy the way, all you intrepid Loch Ness Monster hunters please be aware, that under a Scottish by law of 1912 (The protection of Animals act) it is an offence to capture or harm any creature or ‘creatures’ in Loch Ness, so bear that in mind the next time you go out with a view to catching ‘Nessie’.
GAMBIA EXPEDITION.
An adventurous expedition to find the elusive Ninki Nanka a dragon like animal will hopefully come to fruition later this year. From the proposal notes I take the following.
Tales of this creature first fell on western ears early last century when the country was still under British rule. A lake in what is now Akobo National park was said to be home of one of these creatures. In 1911 a project to drain off water to supply nearby Banjul was began, the animal apparently vanished from the lake (perhaps due to being disturbed by the work). The Natives based on the bank of the river Gambia describe this creature as having a head like a horse, a giraffe like neck, and a body like a crocodile. It was some 30 feet long and dwelt submerged in the mangrove swamps and appeared from time to time on moon lit nights. Thomas Hardy Dalrymple was a medical officer in the West African medical service and on one occasion overheard some natives talking excitedly about how the white man had photographed Niki Nanka. Upon Investigation he found that the people were looking at a magazine called Animals of the World. It contained a photograph of a full scale model dinosaur in a New York park !! Similar it’s believed to the fabled Niki Nanka.
A British Expedition are hoping to travel to Africa later this year in search of this fabled creature, participating in this exciting adventure is Jonathan Downes (project Director) Graham Inglis (Technical and video man) Richard Freeman (Zoologist) Brian Blessed (Consultant & actor), Chris Moiser (Gambian Consultant) and, wait for it, my partner Judith Jaafar. Judith is quite excited about this project getting off the ground and is looking forward to this trip of a lifetime. More on this story later in the year.
END NOTES.
Would friends and colleagues please note that I no longer am residing at Flat 8 49 Dukes Avenue, Chiswick, London, W4 2AG. This was only a temporary move and I am now back at 41 Castlebar Road, Ealing, London, England, W5 2DJ. Well that’s it for another month or so. Do tell your friends about this site and feel free to run your own link to it.
Till next time.
