SPI ENGLAND NEWS

January-March 2001.

COMPILED BY FOUNDER MALCOLM ROBINSON.

Opening Remarks.

I’m sure that you are all wondering what has happened to the SPI England News of late ? And quite right too. Well needless to say I have been very busy of late, I’ve taken up a new position at work one in which I’ve had to study hard for, then there is the day to day ‘life’s issues’ !! Plus various other things that have kept me away from the computer, anyway, I’m here now, so let’s get on with it.

THE BEST UFO LECTURE I HAVE EVER SEEN.

A report by Malcolm Robinson on a recent BUFORA London lecture.

I am 43 years of age and in all my UFOlogical years of travelling around the country attending UFO lectures and having seen many speakers from all continents, I have to say with hand on heart, last night’s BUFORA London lecture surpassed anything that I have ever seen before.

Councillor Billy Buchanan gave an excellent, nay wonderful presentation on the UFO phenomenon that has been (and still is) occurring over the small town of Bonnybridge in Stirlingshire. His lecture was crammed full of slides, aci tates and video which all went to highlight the multiple UFO phenomenon that has fascinated people the world over. He spoke about the sightings, the town in general, it’s history, the ridicule that the Bonnybridge townsfolk have encountered, the UFO Theme park, and his twinning of the town of Bonnybridge and Roswell New Mexico. Only last week Billy was featured on an American radio show with the major of Roswell, who himself, felt that it was a wonderful idea and that he was all for it. The major of Roswell had even read about the UFO sightings over Bonnybridge himself, (They were in the local Roswell newspaper !)

Billy bounded across the floor last night with enthusiasm that knew no bounds, his character, and humour had the audience in stitches, but like he said himself, "It’s telling it like it is".

I have never seen a performance of character and downright ‘in yer face’ facts of a situation. His face was contorted as he stressed his frustration to the audience of his demands that John Major, the then Prime Minister of this country and Tony Blair come to Bonnybridge where we would show them all the facts and figures of what has been going on. M.P. for Falkirk District Dennis Canavan also let us down, a man elected to serve the people of this country, (DIDN’T) and glibly sleeked away into the distance not wanting to hear the concerns of the people of Falkirk and Sirlingshire (who elected him) as they demanded that he assist Councillor Billy Buchanan and myself with forcing a Government enquirey.

Billy also spoke about the only (that we know of so far) case of UFO abduction coming from Bonnybridge. This happened when a local man had taken his wife’s sister up to the back woods of Bonnybridge for a sexual liaison!! A large UFO was seen, then, what the witness described as some very tall men dressed in black took him forcibly into what could only be described as a UFO where he was forced to have sex with….wait for it….what could only be described as a large blamonge !! Absolutely crazy I know. Billy said that this man who told him this weird and wonderful tale was quite a hard man in the community and not someone you would like to meet in a dark alley. But this man broke down in tears (after apologising to Billy that ‘he’ was off his head and that all these UFOs were nonsense). For he now knew otherwise !! He knew his story would never be believed, especially the sexual part but he just had to tell it. Billy checked into the man’s background and found out that when he was a boy, he suffered continuous nose bleeds and a strange pellet like ‘thing’ was removed from his nose. (Implants ? who knows, probably not, but that’s something you should know.

This lecture will have to be heard again to a much more larger audience and as BUFORA’S lecture organiser I aim to ensure that this will be so. Words cannot convey how special, how entertaining, and how fantastic this BUFORA London lecture was. I’ll tell you this, UFOlogy needs more people like Councillor Billy Buchanan to fight the cause, to seek justice for the UFO community who seek answers to this age old mystery.

To those people out there who, like myself are seeking speakers for your own society and club, then you could do no better than seeking the services of Billy Buchanan. You will never forget your night of UFOlogy, the facts, the figures, and honesty of this man fighting the UFOlogical cause of trying to get answers to the Bonnybridge UFO phenomenon will take your breath away.

In conclusion then. This Scottish Councillor has been trying to get Parliament and the British Government to take a serious look at the UFO sightings in Scotland. He refuses to be told to shut up. The ridicule that this man has had to endure over the years would be enough for any normal man to be institutionalised, and yet he has been re-elected 4 times since 1992, the alleged start of the UFO sightings over Bonnybridge, (UFO sightings started well before that in the Bonnybridge area, my own records clearly show this !) Clearly the ‘people’ have faith in the man. There is no smoke without fire. Whatever UFOs may be, they are a reality, they are not figments of the imagination. We are dealing with a recognisable phenomenon that is infringing on mankind, and people like Billy Buchanan will fight to the end to get an answer, and if this BUFORA lecture is anything to go by, then we may be nearer to that answer than we can ever realise !! (MR)

RADIO SPOTS.

I have been featured on a couple of Radio shows earlier this year, I did a short bit for BBC Radio Northampton in regards to some UFO activity that they had been experiencing in their neck of the woods. I explained that as I was not personally involved with these cases I couldn’t offer much in the way of an explanation, suffice it to say I spoke about UFOs in general and made sure the listeners were aware of my feelings that the British Government know more than they are letting on about the UFO situation in this country. ! I also had a spot on BBC radio Lancashire which I did very early in the morning just before I left for work. These radio shows are fine, so long as they are put over in the correct and balanced way, thankfully both were.

JOHN SPENCER HAS A NEW BOOK OUT !!

Seasoned researcher and a good friend of mine, BUFORA’s John Spencer has a new book coming out soon entitled, The Encyclopedia of Ghosts and Spirits (Volume 2). This was co-written by his wife Anne. I was sent a review copy of the book, which I haven’t had time to review as yet. It contains a number of SPI cases which I sent to John for possible inclusion, namely a case from Inverurie Scotland during the mid 1900’s, there is also the strange case concerning a ‘pulverising’ ghost ! from Partick in Glasgow, and a case from my home town in Scotland, Tullibody regarding a ghost and messages from ‘spacemen’ !!!. My partner Judith Jaafar also has a couple of interesting cases contained within the book. In the main the book deals with various ghostly phenomenon, from poltergeists, and ghosts of animals. John and Anne’s first book, The Encyclopedia of ghosts and spirits, sold over 200,000 copies, which as their publisher says, ‘Demonstrates that there continues to be a great fascination in ghosts and spirits in today’s society’. Couldn’t agree more.

This book is due for release on the 22nd of March 2001 and cost’s £20:00 (hardback). For further information on this book, please contact Nicky Reynolds on 020 7873 6103 or e-mail nicky on nicky.reynolds@headline.co.uk A full review of this book will appear on the SPI book review site in due course.

STILL ON BOOKS.

Scotland’s very first book dealing with UFO sightings over Scotland is now in it’s second edition. The title is ‘Of No Defence Significance’ and the author is another good friend of mine Pennicuik’s John Jenkins. This book details a number of UFO cases coming from Scotland over the years including the author’s own UFO sighting. It contains references to most of the big Scottish cases, ie, The A70 Case, Bonnybridge, The Livingston Incident and much more. It sells at £4:99 and you can obtain a copy by ordering it straight from the author by writing to: John Jenkins, 21 Breck Terrace, Glencourse, Pennicuik, Scotland, EH26 ORJ, U.K. It may not be so heavy in cases as fellow Scot Ron Halliday’s UFO books, but nonetheless, John’s is still a pleasure to read.

THORN IN THE SIDE !

Researcher Andy Roberts who is the bane of most British UFOlogists and has been a constant thorn in the side of BUFORA for many a year has been found out by other UFOlogists for the man that he is ! It was only a matter of time. Errol Bruce Knapp, who is the Moderator for UFO Updates in Toronto Canada had this to say in a recent posting:

"Since Mr Roberts has recently demonstrated that he is incapable of maintaining a degree of civility in his posts to UFO Updates and now claims ‘censorship’ of rudeness in recent submissions, Mr Roberts is suspended from UFO Updates for a month. Should he so desire, he may re-apply for a subscription on April 1st 2001"

Hmmm Seems like a very fitting date. For all those that know Andy, you’ll know exactly what I’m on about !!

YES THERE IS SOMEBODY OUT THERE !

This was the incredible headline from the well read and acceptable newspaper, The Daily Mail of Monday March 5th 2001. Writer, researcher, scientist and columnist Colin Wilson wrote quite a stirring and thought provoking article (full page no less) Basically the eminent neuro-psychologist Dr Peter Fenwick published a study on so called near death experiences, a study that left him totally convinced that there is a life beyond death. A team from the University of Arizona apparently confirmed his conclusions. These studies only go to prove that the subject of a life after death is a totally honest and serious one and one to which we should give much thought. Articles like this will show the masses that there ‘is’ something to this (more of the same please !)

MAJESTIC DOCUMENTS.

Redwood City California March 13th 2001. The Majestic Documents Investigation team has just posted 27 documents comprising 65 pages of classified majestic and authentication supporting material in addition to new documents, the witness section, Majestic personnel, supporting documents and document sources all were expanded. In the documents obtained in 2000 section are summary extracts of seven documents comprising 19 pages of new material ranging in classification from double top secret to unclassified provide stunning new evidence for pre 1947 (Roswell) UFO events. Fascinating new information reveals the establishment of the Interplanetary phenomenon Unit (IPU) as a result of two UFO crashes in 1942 shortly after the Los Angeles Air Raid (a famous UFO event which occurred during February 1942). Another document discusses the CIA, UFOs and the Congress and how the CIA in fact briefed some congressional House and Senate committees in the late 50’s on UFOs. There is even a pitch by Dr Edward Teller to President Regan about the Space Defence Initiative (SDI) in which he clearly shows a high degree of familiarity with the UFO subject.

Nick Pope has also been invited to attend and give the opening introduction to Georgina Bruni’s talk. There will be a display of related photographs and also a bookstall selling the usual brick a brac of UFO memorabilia. Light refreshments will also be provided during the break. Come along I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself.

WAS THE LIVINGSTON UFO EVENT OF 1979 A MINE, OR AN ANTI TANK VEHICLE !!!!!!

In UFOlogy there is little that can surprise you, things come to the fore from time to time which make you ponder/wonder and question events of the past. I was recently in e-mail correspondence with a certain gentleman who quickly on the scene of the Livingston UFO event of 1979. (For our foreign readers, Livingston is a town in Central Scotland which took the world headlines in 1979 when an alleged UFO landed nearby in some woods close to Livingston and the witness was allegedly attacked by ‘things’ that descended from the main body of the craft.)

Anyway, my source who was employed by the Glasgow University Archive Department under the supervision of the Scottish records office told me something which I must admit, took me by surprise but nonetheless I accept that it was something worthy of consideration. And what might that be you may ask !! Well the following is word by word (edited in some parts) of the transcript of two e-mails which I received from this gentleman. It reads as follows.

E-mail One.

"There are two Military installations near Livingston, one was a nuclear bunker at Wilkiston near East Calder and the other was to the north of Livingston close to where Bob had his experience. I don’t want to sound mysterious or conspiratorial, but I should give you some background. Livingston was one of the New Towns and enjoyed development status which means it was run by a non elected board of management. When the Government decided to remove it’s Development Corporation status and return it to the local authority, this was done by Act of Parliament. An Archivist/records manager was appointed (me) to oversee the preservation of the history of Livingston from its inception to dissolution. I was subject to the Official Secrets Act and the Privacy Regulations. For instance, many of the records of Livingston Development Corporation will remain closed for 100 years !!! (That'’ twice as long as Cabinet Papers !!) I had no say in the closure periods, therefore I must be careful on what I disclose. I can however point you in various directions if you wished to Investigate further.

The MoD facility at Livingston was important enough to have a railway spur installed from the Edinburgh to Glasgow main line directly into the Depot. It is also interesting to note that shortly after Bob’s Incident, British Aerospace announced they would cease research and development into unmanned anti-tank vehicles. (see Jayne’s World Aircraft about this period for similar American devices). I think this is what Bob experienced.

Hope this interests you.

Name………………………………………………………………..………………….

E-mail Two.

"The reason I suggested you look at Jayne’s All World Aircraft for 1978-1979-1980, (I can’t remember the exact year), is because there is a photograph on an American remote anti-tank helicopter type machine remarkably similar to what Bob described which would deposit mines close to enemy tanks and then retire to a safe distance. The Americans abandoned it because it kept crashing on highways much to the alarm of the motorists and no doubt the Military !! If this is what Bob saw, (and of course there is no direct evidence that it was), it would have been controlled from some distance away and flown into and out of the site.

A contemporary remark by Malcolm Drummond (Bob’s boss who went back to the site with him is worthy of quote"

"But there were no tracks going to and from the site which is surrounded by trees. What made them must have weighed more than a ton, possibly two ton. I can’t explain what made those marks but it must have come straight down and gone straight back up again".

The first General Manager of Livingston Development Corporation, Brigadier Purchase, had a great love of having each stage of development photographed and particularly from the air. Such photographs exist of the MoD site"

Regards.

Name………………………………………………………………………………..

Further to the above information, I was in e-mail discussion with fellow researcher Matthew Williams who informed me that he remembers watching a programme on T.V. some months back, (he thinks it was an Eqinox programme which was on Channel 4 in which they were informing their viewers about various new Military inventions (exotic weaponry ideas and prototypes which were never actually put into any use). He recalls that it featured a device like a round ball which could jump about by punching out pegs from it’s side. This immediately reminded him of the Livingston Incident, for in that incident, 2 spherical ball like objects rolled across the grass and attached their rod like legs onto the terrified watching witness Robert Taylor. The idea (according to the narrator of the Equinox programme, was that these devices could be dropped by a plane and sit on the ground for a short while until something (one) came towards them then they would roll towards that object (person) and explode. So in effect, Matthew reflects, they were intelligently hunting devices which sought out their own prey !!!

Now isn’t the above just fascinating ? Was the objects that Robert Taylor encountered during that eventful morning of November 9th 1979, some kind of remote mine that was being experimented on by the Military. We have learned from my Livingston source, that there was a nearby MoD Installation. This opens up a whole new ball game in regards to the Livingston event, and one in which I aim to persue. The above, to my knowledge, has never ever been mooted as a possibility in regards to the Livingston event, but I think it should now. More on any future developments with this Investigation when I have it.

THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE STATISTICS FOR 2000.

At the moment I am collecting statistics in regards to UFO sightings for the year 2000, and I will currently be writing to the many U.K. UFO & Paranormal groups across the country in regards to this. Obviously doing a survey of this nature I just had to find out what the Ministry of Defence had to say in regards to UFO sightings reported to them so I sent off a letter a few months ago. They were quick to respond. In a letter dated 15th march 2001 from a Mr S. Fowle, Directorate of Air staff (sec) 4a Room 8245 I was furnished with some very interesting information. The following is basically the break down of that letter.

Total UFO Sightings reported to the MoD for the year 2000. (182)

UFO sightings over Scotland: (19)

UFO Sightings over England: (155)

UFO Sightings over Wales: (7)

UFO sightings over Northern Ireland: (1)

January 2000 (18 UFO reports)

February 2000 (18 UFO reports)

March 2000 (15 UFO reports)

April 2000 (8 UFO reports)

May 2000 (6 UFO reports)

June 2000 (15 UFO reports)

July 2000 (16 UFO reports)

August 2000 (19 UFO reports)

September 2000 (16 UFO reports)

October 2000 (20 UFO reports)

November 2000 (20 UFO reports)

December 2000 (11 UFO reports)

Mr S. Fowle in his letter to me stated (what I already knew !) that the vast majority of UFO reports submitted into the MoD did in the main have natural mundane explanations such as aircraft lights, weather balloons etc etc. He finished by saying that the list of UFO reports in the MoD data bank go as far back as 1995 !! (Is that all, surely not !)

I’ve written back to Mr Fowle asking him where did the MoD get their UFO reports from ? ie, the press/media/police or what ! I await his reply. What may be of interest (from a Scottish point of view) is the fact that none of the Scottish UFO reports, came from Bonnybridge !!!!!!!!! Now there’s something. Is it because the people of Bonnybridge and surrounding areas, can’t be bothered reporting their sightings anymore to the MoD, for they now know, that this will not bring them an answer.

For our Scottish readers, here is the list of Scottish UFO sightings that were forwarded onto the MoD.

As I say, I will be writing to many UFO groups around the country soon, so look out for my detailed questionnaire.

BITS & PIECES.

I was speaking to the prestigious Ghost Club in London recently, where in a sense I was preaching to the converted. The talk went down well apart from a little bit of bother with the slide projector (will this ever end !!). I also spoke about some of the UFO sightings that I have been involved with during my stay in Scotland. All in all it was a good night and I believe they want me back to continue with my talk on ghosts, for as usual I ran out of time. I just talk and talk !!

I was featured along with Councillor Billy Buchanan in the Sunday Express newspaper (February 18th 2001) This article also contained write ups on the Malcolm Family who have managed to capture quite a lot of UFO footage on their camcorder over the years. The tone of the article was very good without any mickey taking, more of the same please.

I have been invited to participate in a live 5 hour broadcast with a new satellite T.V. programme which launches in may from Leicester Square in London. This is to do with my research on ghosts and poltergeists, should be a good one. More news when I have it.

END NOTES.

Well that’s it again for another wee while, I hope you found the above interesting. I had hoped to include the recent Tony Bassett experiment that was conducted in front of witnesses in Ealing London, but, after writing the report, I somehow managed to lose it from my computer so will have to re-write it all again. (Don’t you just hate when that happens !) If you have any comments or would like to report an unusual event (of the UFO & paranormal variety please !!) Then catch me at the usual SPI England e-mail address. Till the next one.
